Buddy is our four year old Pit Bull, who we rescued in September of 2004. He was in and out of shelters most of his short life before being with us, and was due to be euthanized at any day due only to his very active personality combined with his breed. He was considered uncontrollable.
When a shelter heard through a rescue group that we were looking for an energetic dog, Buddy was suggested. We wanted a friendly dog with plenty of energy, maybe even one who was considered a "nut". Be careful what you wish for!
He had received training before, like most dogs we meet. He knew how to sit and give his paw. However in most cases he would do neither. In the presence of any distraction, a person, another dog, a toy, a leaf blowing... he was just an absolute maniac. He pulled on a leash uncontrollably, jumped on everyone, ran around at full speed whenever possible, wasn't housebroken or crate trained. Fortunately, he isn't at all aggressive to people or other dogs. In fact he thoroughly LOVES everyone.
To this day we have never met a more hyper or more friendly dog. He loves life, loves to run, loves to chase anything (balls, sticks, people, anything a person throws), and thinks he lives to play. He has all the freedom to run and play, and still be under control. And a guaranteed happy life because of the training he has received. He is absolutely the perfect dog for us and for his job - to show everyone what we can do. With ANY dog.
See what saved his life, as well as the lives of many other dogs we have trained that were nearly lost.
Look closely!
