Is a residency dog training program the best choice for me and my dog?

Residency Programs - What they are...
Our 5 and 10 day residency programs are organized into two parts. The first part are the 5 or 10 days your dog spends with us to
receive initial training on the commands included in the program. The second part, the most important part, is training you the owner.
You need to be taught how to maintain the training your dog receives from us so your dog continues to obey you as well as your dog
obeys us.
The Danger of Listening Only to the Trainer...
This is a valid concern with many residency (also called in-kennel or board and train) programs. If you the humans are not trained to a
certain extent, you will not be interacting with your dog in a way that your dog will respond adequately. We have included enough
information and lessons to be sure that you will learn all you need to know, so that your dog will listen to you as well as he or she
listens to us. This includes leadership and body language coaching in addition to how to reinforce what your dog has learned.
Where your dog stays...
We are not a kennel. Your dog will stay in our home with us. Your dog will be out, being trained and interacting with us. At night your
dog will be sleeping safely and comfortably inside. And if your dog enjoys the company of other dogs, your dog will be playing with our
dogs for socialization as well. You are invited to come see where the dogs stay. If you haven't already, schedule a visit with us! We will
also show you a demonstration of our dog's obedience so you can see what we expect from the dogs we train.
How we train the humans...
We train you through private lessons planned around what is convenient for you. Your first lesson will be when you arrive to pick up
your dog after your dog's visit here. The program includes two lessons at your home, as well, so we can help you in your dog's own
environment.
Why residency programs work...
Group classes give you very little one on one attention from the trainer. They are usually limited to only basic training, which means
your dog will only obey around basic distractions, and sometimes only when there are treats available.
With private lessons you are doing most of the work in between lessons. Some dog owners don't have the time to teach their dog to
obey reliably in every situation, and give them the needed practice in the beginning. If you prefer to have more of an active role in your
dog's initial learning, the Dependable Dog Program and the Amazing Dog Program are excellent options for you in addition to our
residency program.
If you prefer to have your dog get a larger head start before coming home, or are considerably limited on time, we solve this problem by
having each dog trained directly by one of our certified professionals. We do the hardest part for you, and then train YOU after your
dog has a huge thorough head start.
In Summary...
Which program you choose should primarily be determined by how much time you have and your personal preferences for the initial
training. Many times dog owners will ask us which program we believe their dog needs. We answer this by saying that we never want
anyone to feel pressured to do one program over the other, so which program they choose depends on how much initial work they
would like us to do, verses how much time they have to practice with their dogs on a daily basis in the beginning.
If a Residency Program is the best for you, the best part is...
With a residency program, when your dog comes home, he will know all of the commands in the program. You will just need to learn
how to maintain your dog's training. And of course we will help you do that with lots of ongoing support! Our program includes
unlimited private lessons and a Lifetime Guarantee.
You will never have to worry about ever paying anything further for your dog's training. And that's guaranteed!
