Biting, nipping and mouthing - Many people assume that these behaviors are because the dog is teething or they just don't know how to play appropriately. This is actually a social behavior that dogs will do to help them establish the "pack order" of the family. So, these problems usually stem from the puppy or dog not knowing his rightful place in the pack order. For adult dogs, this program is usually pretty easy to eliminate. For puppies, it seems to be a relatively "normal" thing for puppies to do, but is not something that should be allowed as dogs don't always grow out of the habit. Note: If your dog is biting aggressively, such as in response to you doing something that your dog is obviously unhappy with (like coming near their food or taking something away from them), then this problem is discussed under "Aggression".
These unwanted behaviors are just some of the things that we can quickly resolve in any of our dog training programs at our facility in Eastern PA.
