Why don't you teach the "Stay" command?
The "stay" command is irrelevant with this method of training. If you ask your dog to sit, you really should want him to sit for as long
as you need him to. Not just sit and pop back up. So when you say "sit", your dog will sit until you release him, automatically.
This method of training we find is clearer to the dog than the difference between "sit" and "sit, stay" would be. As with all of our
training methods, it teaches the dog to have straightforward focus on the owner for direction at all times, thus helping the leadership
role and managing, resolving or preventing many other problems the dog may have.
What is the "Place" command and why is it useful?
The "place" command is used to teach a dog to go to a certain spot. It can be one particular spot in the
house where the dog should go and sit or lay down; or it can be a spot in each room so you will have
the dog with you but not in your way. It can be any object, as long as your dog knows what you are
pointing to. A pillow, a towel, a bed, a newspaper, a napkin... Anything the dog knows you are referring
to.
Most owners just want one spot in the house where the dog can be with the family but not underfoot.
It is essentially a crate or playpen with no walls.
The place command is so helpful because it helps the owner control their dog in any situation in the
house, such as when guests are visiting. It's a form of boundary training for the dog and has many
practical uses.
To the right, Buddy is on a place (and falling asleep!)
What are some things that make DTU different than most trainers in the area?
We are dedicated and experienced in helping dogs become the kind of family members their owners can happily live with. We have
saved MANY dogs from being given to shelters or being put down. We completely enjoy what we do, and because of that always want
to make sure that families we work with get the best. We don't limit our attention to you by only having group classes. We don't limit
the number of private lessons you can have with us. You never have to pay more for more help. Everything is included in the programs
so that you know you will never have to spend anything else on dog training for your dog ever again.
We have three different programs to choose from. We always provide ongoing support, in case there are things that you and you dog
need to brush up on. We teach you and your family, not just your dog, so ongoing maintenance will be simple while we aren't physically
there and your dog will listen to you all as well as your dog listens to us. And we GUARANTEE our training will work, which is very
uncommon!
Our methods are gentle, humane and motivational for every dog. Dogs learn very quickly and are very happy that they understand
exactly what you expect of them. Our training approach is very practical and easy to implement. Our methods really work, in the real
world and in everyday life.

Do you really know what's in your dog's food?
Although you may think all pet food manufacturers have your pet's best interests in mind, this is not always the case. Current pet food regulations allow manufacturers to use ingredients that you would never knowingly give to your pet. In fact, you may be shocked to learn what some brands of pet food really contain. Some dog food ingredients can actually effect your dog's behavior! Click here to learn more before you buy another bag of dog food.
